Chasing Summer
Tammy Rochelle and Joseph Bamber returned to the LRB to open the show at the start of their Europe wide summer tour. This husband and wife duo from Nashville are very happy (and jet lagged) to be back at the LRB…
They opened with Liberty a jaunty up tempo song written in Australia in response to being told that women should be crushed. Joseph is playing bass guitar with Tammy on acoustic and vocals, already they had audience participation going on and great applause…
Don’t Worry about a Thing is a song Tammy wrote for her sister as she negotiated health challenges. The song had a lovely Jack Johnson vibe with an easy sing along chorus to hook you in.
Tammy, now playing bass as Joseph sings Live This Life. Tammy adds impromptu lyrics to apologise for a few wrong notes as she normally plays ukulele bass. That’s Jazz… Laughs
It’s time for something familiar now as Tammy and Joseph cover Stand By Me a song made famous by Ben. E King in the 1960s.
Another instrument swap as they now perform Summertime a song Tammy wrote in the winter as an aid to get through the cold season… Joseph plays some keys on this song along with more backing vocals…
Tammy tells us her story of first playing in the UK in Whitstable before introducing The Coast Of Kent. A song she hasn’t played in many years, however visiting old friends in Kent brought it to mind tonight…
Tammy pays tribute to Terry Goldsmith for his help and support before playing My Oh My and rehearsing the LRB audience for their role in the song. You come to the LRB, you are part of the band… People always seem happy to join in, it’s part of the LRB experience… along with the great food, music and company.
Something more bluesy from Joseph, written at a time of personal struggle, There For You… Tammy had a great finger snap going on with the audience to add some percussion…
None of these songs so far, are on the 2015 CHASING SUMMER album
Tammy now plays her ukulele on a song Joseph wrote when he first met Tammy in Nicaragua, a country love song called We Can Be 1+1= 1. This song is track 4 on The CHASING SUMMER album…
Tammy is clearly impressed by the organisation of the LRB as the clock is pointed out to her… before she introduced It’s Gonna Rain a choir song reliant on the audience to fill the gaps… People really delivered on this with some beautiful harmony singing that filled the room.
To close we have a short medley of Down By the Riverside, When The Saints Go Marching In, In the Highways and Hedges…
Thank you Tammy Rochelle and Joseph Bamber…
Jenny Colquitt
This is Jenny’s third LRB performance by popular demand, and second time with a full band, so we knew what to expect with such a class act…
The joy on Jenny’s face is palpable as she opens with How Do You Feel from her 2021 Album SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL Track 8.
The scale of the sound is hard to describe for those who have not seen Jenny’s band live, she could and should be commanding the biggest stages in the country. The applause says it all…
Shape from the same album is next, and another seemingly effortless performance from Jenny and the band as their music just soars across the barn and beyond…
Jenny, takes to acoustic guitar next before playing a song she wrote about societal war called Soldier Of The Modern Day. Track 5 from her 2023 Album LOST ANIMALS. The LRB crowd are clearly enjoying this as Jenny tells her self deprecating jokes with an infectious smile…
Now we enjoy Dear Me, track 7 from the new album STARING AT THE MOON There is some lovely acoustic guitar playing from Liam here…
Jenny introduces the band, Josh Roscoe on drums, Ray (standing tall like a sentinel) on bass and Liam Kent playing guitars, before performing Without You, another song from the new album.
Now Jenny is solo with her acoustic guitar discussing Humpty Dumpty and its association with Colchester, with the audience whilst tuning… laughs. Thanks for the info Mike…
I’m Fading Track 3 from STARING AT THE MOON is next followed by I Won’t Let You Drive Track 5. Both beautiful song’s beautifully performed by Jenny.
Bravest of the Brave is the opening track on STARING AT THE MOON
Poet On The Street is a new song from Jenny, an artist who likes to stay on a level with her audience as opposed to the ‘us and them’ scenario experienced by major stars, although that may become inevitable some day.
Jenny plays a musical interlude as the band come back on stage and gives Chasing Summer a big shout out… Jenny shares here anxieties about perhaps performing in Nashville but we assure her she can do it…
The show gets rocky now (if it wasn’t already) This Better Love inspires an upgrade in the chair dancing, Jenny tells us… laughs… as Jenny demonstrates the moves… or tries to…
Open Pages is from The LOST ANIMALS ep, as is Paradise both beautifully performed tonight.
Back to The STARING AT THE MOON album now, for a song called My Design. Jenny tells us that she always wants to design the world, so she wrote a song about it…
Now we have a cover, originally from The Cranberries, Zombie from their 1994 Album NO NEED TO ARGUE.
The stage was lit with suitable green lights by request as the band played a superb rendition of the song.
It’s that time of the evening where we all sing, and the perfect song for it is Fallin’ Angels again from the new album.
A quick rehearsal was enough, the chorus was epic, a spine tingling moment you only seem to experience with live music, especially live music of this calibre… It’s easy to imagine Jenny playing this to thousands of people in large venues and festivals across the country, but you heard it first at the LRB…
After much on stage banter Jenny performs Dirty Town, the opener from SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL , another majestic anthem that Jenny is so prolific at writing as the Audience just love it.
For A Moment is another song from the new album, one that should definitely be in any music lover’s collection
So we approach the end of the show. I’m sure this band could play all night and we wouldn’t mind…
Something Beautiful is next another chance for all the musicians to shine before we enjoy the title song from the new album STARING AT THE MOON
We couldn’t leave it there, we wanted more and we got it after Jenny gave her thanks to everyone involved in her own inimitable way.
Hold Your Light Up is a new song and mobile phone light waving was encouraged… It makes a great pic from stage… Jenny tells us…
If you want to hear the new songs first, you have got to come to the gigs, it’s a unique and special experience especially with artists of the calibre of Jenny Colquitt.
The night wasn’t over though, we get one more song, No one Loves Me Like You, again from the new album, and again an anthem for for the biggest stages… The applause and standing ovation said it all, thank you Jenny Colquitt and the boys in the band, that was pure magic…
Thanks to JENNY COLQUITT with her wonderfully talented band featuring Josh Roscoe on drums, Liam Kent guitars, Ray on bass and CHASING SUMMER for a memorable evening.
