HANNAH WHITE band show | CHRISTINA MARTIN duo

    GUEST LIST FULL | Doors 18:45 | Live 19:15 | Finish 22:30

HANNAH WIHITE Band Show | Saturday 09 March. Thrilled to welcome back one of the UK's fastest-rising singer-songwriters, w guitarist Keiron Marshall and full band. A new album Sweet Revolution (about her life) on label The Last Music Company that includes Andy Fairweather Low, Jimmie Vaughan, Geraint Watkins and more. Tours with Paul Carrack and Ricky Ross/Deacon Blue have seen Hannah playing UK's top venues including The Royal Albert Hall. A Best UK Song AMAUK Award for 'Car Crash' got 2023 underway.

The searingly autobiographical song came from the About Time album, which won rave reviews across the UK and far beyond. Now comes Sweet Revolution, a bold new chapter in a singular story, in which White has confronted and overcome the formidable challenges that inform her lyrics and make her work so strikingly personal.

The album is produced by Michele Stodart of UK folk-pop mainstays the Magic Numbers who, like pedal steel player Holly Carter and drummer Emma Holbrook, is a regular member of Hannah's live band. Sweet Revolution features 11 new compositions, all written solely by White, who sings all lead vocals and plays acoustic guitar and, on the song 'One Foot,' dulcimer, percussion and even didgeridoo.

The album also includes notable contributions by Marshall on electric and baritone guitar and vocals; Lars Hammersland on Hammond and Rhodes; and other friends such as BRIT Award nominee Beth Rowley, multi-instrumentalist Daisy Chute and (on the closing 'A Separation') Deacon Blue frontman Ricky Ross, with whom White became fast friends after she supported him on his extensive UK and Irish tour in the autumn of 2022.

Says Hannah with her customary openness: “This is a collection of songs about going from growing up on a council estate, and all of the hopelessness, the sadness & the loneliness, to homelessness and then finding a sense of power through words and music, and becoming an artist. This is the sweet revolution in my life.”

CHRISTINA MARTIN Duo Show | Saturday 09 March.  Delighted to welcome back Canadian pop/rock acclaimed artist w guitarist and producer Dale Murray. A new album “STORM is a lavish offering capable of re-invigorating a career that can prosper at home, over the border and across the seas to lands packed with receptive potential. Christina Martin shows her mettle, drive and lashings of personal intent to send a record into the world rich with lure and cinematic poise  — THREE CHORDS AND THE TRUTH (UK) SEPTEMBER 2023

With her brand new album Storm more sweeping and orchestral than ever before, Christina Martin is going from strength to strength. It’s a fine thing to be a lyrical troubadour with honest lyrics that cut like a razor, and it’s a fine thing to be a performer who can make hips shake and tears flow at the drop of a casual chord. But to hold both in the palm of your hand, as Martin does with such grace, is downright remarkable. Resolute, raw, and infinitely listenable, Christina Martin is like the wind. Her music can be gentle as a kiss upon your cheek, but if you’re caught off guard it can carry you away, and has the power behind it to blow your house down.”

    GUEST LIST FULL | Doors 18:45 | Live 19:15 | Finish 22:30

Great to welcome back multi award winner Sara, some 10 years from her 2013 show at LRB. Appearing with the powerhouse backline of Scott Warman on bass, Jamie Dawson drums and crack lead guitarist Joe Coombs. With seven full albums “Petite is that rare artist who is so original in her sound that she can’t be pinned down to any or two influences...." American Highways. Described as outlaw country whose music reaches far beyond the genre's borders, Sara Petite has built an award-winning career with songs that owe as much to the rock & roll roadhouse as they do the honky-tonk.

Meet Sara Petite, a fiery Americana singer-songwriter from San Diego, CA, who has torn up stages for the past 15 years with her band. She has released seven albums, and her current one released last June 9, called The Empress on Forty Below Records, with label president Eric Corne as producer. Her last album Rare Bird, garnered reviews from Americana Highways to American Songwriter magazines praising her; “… she’s still writing and recording her songs from a personal perspective and finding common ground with her listeners all at the same time.”

Sara has played many stages and venues over the years playing with her band and solo as a headliner or a solo performer. Some of the artists she's opened for are Todd Snider, Lucinda Williams, Josh Turner, Lonestar, The Beat Farmers, John Eddie, Marty Stuart, Railroad Earth, and Rhett Miller. Venues played The Belly Up (San Diego), The Mint (L.A.), Hotel Congress (Tucson, AZ), The Basement, and AmericanaFest in Nashville, TN. A splash of festivals and concert series include ones from California to the U.K., Dogwood Festival in Knoxville, Sycamore Fest - Bloomington, Indiana to Maverick Festival (UK), and the Garden Festival (UK) and various ones in her hometown of San Diego, CA.

    SARAH JANE SCOUTEN

Sarah Jane Scouten’s new fifth album TURNED TO GOLD (Light Organ Records) is a road trip album, drawing on Tom Petty, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris and Christine McVie. Opening up the record, “Wanderlust” is a highway dream. “Wilder When I Was With You”, with its irresistible chorus, was co-written with Samantha Parton (BeGood Tanyas). “Rose and Carnations” is a tribute to John Prine and “The Great Unknown” reveals a family experience of medical assistance in dying (MAID). For the title track “Turned to Gold”, Sarah Jane revisits the impact of the sudden loss of her biological mother, exploring the theme of alchemical transmutation. Made in a heatwave in Vancouver, she collaborated with producer Johnny Payne (The Shilohs), Matt Kelly on keys and guitars (City and Colour), Leon Power on drums (Frazey Ford) and James McEleney on bass (Andrew Collins Trio).

Sarah Jane Scouten has been nominated for 4 Canadian Folk Music Awards, a Western Canadian Music Award and an International Folk Music Award. She has performed at Vancouver Folk Music Festival, MerleFest, Calgary Folk Music Festival, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues, Dranouter Festival, Maverick Americana Music Festival and more. She has opened for Corb Lund, William Prince, Ron Sexsmith, The Sadies and shared the stage with Martha Wainwright, The Strumbellas, Allison Russell, Martin Carthy, Mandolin Orange (Watchhouse) and more. According to CBC q’s Tom Power, "Stan Rogers was able to do it, Ron Hynes was able to do it, Kate McGarrigle was able to do it – and Sarah Jane Scouten is able to do it."

Canadian singer/songwriter Tara MacLean has been an internationally renowned and award winning recording and touring artist for over 25 years. She released her first album with the Nettwerk Music Group in 1996 and Sony Music Publishing Canada. Since then has been signed with Capitol Records, and EMI Canada with her JUNO nominated band Shaye. She has written and recorded seven solo albums and two with Shaye.

Tara has recently received the Senate of Canada Medal for her activist work in her community. She finished a run of three summer seasons with her hit theater show that she wrote, produced, and directed called, “Atlantic Blue-The Stories of Atlantic Canada’s Iconic Songwriters” in Charlottetown. The summer of 2019 saw Atlantic Blue produced and directed by the world famous Charlottetown Festival playing three nights a week to sold out crowds.

Tara received the SOCAN Songwriter of the Year award as well as Solo Recording of the Year for her latest album, Deeper at the PEI Music Awards. Deeper was nominated for Pop Album of the Year at ECMA 2020. Her duet with Catherine MacLellan, "This Storm", received the award for Song of the Year. She performed “Songs from Atlantic Blue” in Concert with the PEI Symphony Orchestra. Last year, Tara received the Stompin' Tom award by the East Coast Music Association, marking an outstanding contribution to music in the region.

Tara MacLean is an environmental and social justice activist, a zen student, a poet, author and a playwright. She resides in her home province of Prince Edward Island, and also lives on Salt Spring Island, BC. She considers herself bi-coastal. Her greatest joy is being a mother to her three beautiful girls.

Her first book, Song of the Sparrow, hit the Best Seller List the week it was released and Tara quickly followed up with “Sparrow” - the soundtrack for the book.

Catherine MacLellan has been captivating audiences around the world with her music for over two decades. Born and raised in the idyllic province of Prince Edward Island, Catherine's songs reflect her deep connection to the land and the people that call it home. Her passion for songwriting runs in the family; her father, Gene MacLellan, wrote beloved hits like "Snowbird" and "Put Your Hand in the Hand."

While Catherine's music is rooted in folk and roots, her sound has evolved to embrace a wider range of influences over the course of her 7 albums. From heart-wrenching ballads to uplifting anthems, her music has a universal appeal that speaks to the struggles, triumphs, and joys of life.

In addition to her musical pursuits, Catherine has also dedicated herself to shining a light on her father's legacy, producing an award-winning documentary and stage show that explore his life and struggles with mental health.

Through it all, Catherine remains committed to the craft of songwriting and the art of connection. Whether she's playing to a packed theatre or an intimate gathering, Catherine's warm presence and heartfelt music create an unforgettable experience for all who hear her.

music create an unforgettable experience for all who hear her.

    THIS STORM

Catherine MacLellan and Tara MacLean, both award winning singer/songwriters from Prince Edward Island, Canada, have come together in a stunning musical collaboration that speaks to this time in the history of the human struggle.

Their musical history started together with their fathers (songwriters Gene MacLellan and Marty Reno) who worked and toured together. Their musical sisterhood can be felt in the track as though they were singing in the same room. THIS STORM, though, was a product of self-isolation, written and recorded from their separate homes.

    ELECTRIC BLUE YONDER

A traveling troupe of intrepid space folk explorers, Electric Blue Yonder (EBY) examines the mysteries of the universe and reports their findings through song. Described as “Real American Space Folk,” the band draws its inspiration from the psychedelic folk, surf, and cosmic country rock of the 60s and the Space Age prog/art rock explorations of David Bowie and Pink Floyd, all while shifting time to the early roots and parlour style guitar of the 20th century. The result is a genre-bending mix that captures a nostalgic familiarity while simultaneously transporting you into uncharted territory.

“…a meditative mashup of trippy folk-rock psychedelia, cut with a raw, Alabama flavor befitting their roots. Captivating harmony vocals and skilled, almost Nick Drake-like guitar fills complete the picture.” - Steve Morse, longtime Boston Globe staff music writer who now teaches Rock History at Berklee College of Music

The band includes founders Beth and Johnny Veres, who provide vocals and guitar, and Russell Thomas Bush on bass, with an expanding cast of talented musicians based on production scale. Beth met Johnny while back home for a summer between college and grad school and began playing in a reincarnated version of HellaKopta of Love (HOL), a progressive rock instrumental band from his days at Auburn University. They started writing songs inspired by roots music and harmony-driven vocals that outgrew the youthful experimentalism of HOL and retired from public performance for several years to incubate their newfound passion. In December 2015, Beth and Johnny were married. By the spring of 2016, they began performing as Blue Yonder, working on orchestral arrangements for their songs. In early 2017, Johnny asked Russell Thomas Bush, a friend and former band mate of Beth from her Tuscaloosa days playing in the band Squirrelhouse, to join them. Shortly after, they recorded their first EP, Born of the Sky, in their historic home with the help of Technical Earth Recorder’s Robert Shimp. After Colorado and East coast runs touring the EP, Blue Yonder added “Electric” to their name for the filming of an episode of the Zimmern List at Saw’s Juke Joint in 2018, augmenting their sound with vital vibrations.

“The emphasis is on the song,” adds Johnny.  “It’s a collective thing to create this music. We record with talented musicians in our community. We take traditional forms and use those as a springboard to explore new musical territory, to examine the condition of our times from a critical distance and how our lives interconnect.”

EBY debuted Between Space and Time (B/TST) on February 29, 2020, just two weeks before the pandemic shutdowns. As an anthology, B/TST includes some of their earliest works interspersed with the ‘vital vibrations’ of what’s to come, thematically centered on the relationships between people as they bump and collide through the Large Hadron Collider of Life. Their songwriting shines through with earnest lyrics and a powerful delivery through their unique harmonies. Ranging from the weird country of “Brand New Day” and traces of gypsy jazz in “Actions” to the sonically dark musings on mortality in “Epitaph” and the grooving portrait of cosmic love on “Your Light”, the songs of Between Space and Time shine like the stars of a newly, emerging constellation. At the core of the album, the band hits their stride with laid-back rocker “Schtick Shift”, the spacious, Grateful Dead-esque “Bluster”, and the boot-stomping storm of “Thunder Train.”

“We wanted to make timeless music that future generations will seek out,” said Beth about the band, describing their style as Space Folk. “We try to be genuine in our approach to songwriting and lyrics.”

"EBY is a diamond-bright exploration of rock's past, present and hopeful future. As saviors of the genre go, they make a powerful argument that theirs is one of the few revolutions left worth signing up for…" - Blue Sullivan of Slant Magazine.

Michele has always pursued her own writing, nurturing a love for Folk, Country and Americana music, and has released three solo albums of her own songs. Her most recent release, Invitation (September 2023) - a confessional, melodic album with an orchestral, cinematic feel - received outstanding critical acclaim and went on to win ‘UK Album of the Year’ at the UK Americana Awards 2024, where Michele also scooped the coveted award for ‘UK Artist of the Year’.

In 2022, she received public recognition for her musical talent, when she was awarded the AMA-UK 'Instrumentalist Of The Year' Award. In January 2023 she was invited back as musical director at the UK Americana Awards, where she put together the house band and played with the likes of Mike Scott (of The Waterboys), Allison Russell, and Lifetime Achievement award-winner Judy Collins, who took a moment on stage to compliment Michele on her "incredible" talent.

In 2019, Michele graced our screens in the Danny Boyle / Richard Curtis blockbuster film ‘Yesterday’. She was chosen for her role in the movie due to her melodic bass playing and electric, enigmatic stage presence. Working alongside Boyle, Curtis and musical composer Daniel Pemberton, Michele’s bass and vocals are featured on the Abbey Road Studios movie soundtrack, reinterpreting The Beatles’ most beloved hits.

Michele’s diverse skills have led to many collaborative projects on stage and in the studio with artists such as Kathryn Williams, Billy Bragg, David Ford, Bernard Butler, Natalie Imbruglia, Julian Taylor, Charlie Dore, David Kitt, Hannah White, Rachel Sermanni, Ren Harvieu, Emily Barker, Diana Jones, O'Hooley & Tidow amongst many others.

    CARSON McHONE | DUO SHOW

Carson McHone is a songwriter from Austin, Texas, now residing in Southern Ontario.  McHone’s 2018 internationally released Carousel (LOOSE MUSIC / NINE MILE RECORDS), produced by Mike McCarthy, was a reimagining of songs from her formative years coming of age playing in dive bars.  It established her as a shrewd artist who raises unconventional questions with language equally at home in a poem or a short story. In 2019, during a hectic tour schedule, the songs of Still Life were written, and the following year McHone teamed up with Canadian musician and producer, Daniel Romano, to record the album while sequestered at a home studio in the fall of 2020.

Still Life was released on MERGE RECORDS in February 2022 with McHone touring the US, Canada, Europe, and the UK in support of the album, as well as joining, and performing with, Daniel Romano’s band, the Outfit. In September 2022 McHone released Camera Varda Variations (MERGE RECORDS), a digital EP featuring two songs from Still Life re-recorded at the Outfit’s new studio, Camera Varda, with the group as her band, akin to the collaboration/live show of the two acts on tour.

McHone has recorded and toured three albums as a member of the Outfit, Cobra Poems (2022), La Luna (2023), and Too Hot To Sleep (2024), all released on YOU’VE CHANGED RECORDS.  McHone’s upcoming EP, ODES, is a collection of carefully curated covers recorded at Camera Varda with her bandmates the Outfit, plus special guest Shannon McGrath, and will be released July 19th, 2024 on MERGE RECORDS.

HANNAH ALDRIDGE Full Band Show | FLORENCE SOMMERVILLE

    GUEST LIST FULL Doors 18:45 | Live 19:15 | Finish 10:45

FULL BAND SHOW | Saturday 05 October 2024

Hannah Aldridge is back and she’s celebrating the 10 Year Anniversary of her debut album “Razorwire”. This time she brings her band with her, breathing new life into the songs that started her career a decade ago.
Hannah grew up on the muddy banks of Muscle Shoals—her birthright is music and Alabama. A reckoning between her coming-to-age in the South and a lifetime of trying to create an identity outside of it, her songs strike a delicate balance between rebellion and self-discovery. With a voice equal parts gritty and melodic, Hannah took to the road, entertaining crowds in ten countries and three continents with her acclaimed debut album Razor Wire, superb follow-up Gold Rush and Live in Black and White - a beautifully captured live album recorded in London, England.
In 2023 Aldridge expanded her artistic vision with the ambitious, cinematic Dream of America, which was released on Swedish alternative indie label, Icons Creating Evil Art. It peers through the lens of fading Hollywood starlets, charming psychopaths and weary vagabonds - navigating society’s underbelly through dark, romantic vignettes.
Her music treads a fine line between the genial charm of Americana, and the raw, hypnotic and occasionally electronic stylings of what some might like to call ‘noir indie pop’. Deploying a charming blend of power and vulnerability, Aldridge delivers her stories with all the conviction of a church bell ringing out through the streets of a small Alabama town.

Daughter of Muscle Shoals legend Walt Aldridge, Hannah started her musical journey as a classically-trained pianist. It wasn’t until her early twenties that she first picked up a guitar and began using music as an outlet to grapple with her demons. With a voice equal parts gritty and melodic, the emerging artist took to the road, entertaining crowds in ten countries and three continents with her acclaimed debut album Razor Wire, superb follow-up Gold Rush and Live in Black and White - a beautifully captured live album recorded in London, England.

Aldridge has expanded her artistic vision with the ambitious, cinematic Dream of America, which is set to be released in 2023 on Swedish alternative indie label, Icons Creating Evil Art. A highly collaborative project, produced in three corners of the world with renowned Melbourne based artist/producer Lachlan Bryan, producer/engineer Damian Cafarella and Swedish mix engineer Frans Hägglund, the record peers through the lens of fading Hollywood starlets, charming psychopaths and weary vagabonds - navigating society’s underbelly through dark, romantic vignettes. Hannah’s haunting vocals, assisted by her father’s expert vocal production, deliver a cathartic message of defiance.

Hannah Aldridge’s fierce Southern energy reaches through every speaker, whether it’s in a dashboard doing 80 down I-65, a rock club in Amsterdam or a Honky Tonk in her adopted hometown of Nashville. The new album treads a fine line between the genial charm of Americana, and the raw, hypnotic and occasionally electronic stylings of what some might like to call ‘noir indie pop’. It is music for those looking to confront their demons without remaining tethered to them.

Deploying a charming blend of power and vulnerability, Aldridge delivers her stories with all the conviction of a church bell ringing out through the streets of a small Alabama town.
